Goal

Although I am making strides in learning Japanese, it is still difficult for me to sound completely natural. Especially when I don't pay attention, my voice becomes monotonous, which is not a good habit for a language that relies partly on pitch and intonation.  I want to continue to listen and speak better, as I have trouble hearing long vowels and double consonants at times.  I will also attempt to increase my reading and speaking speed.

I will attempt to read new Japanese material out loud at least twice a week in order to become more comfortable and fluent with all the characters.  I also will shadow on average of 10 minutes a day (about an hour a week).  I cannot usually visit the Japanese language table due to soccer practice, but I will try to visit one of the sensee's office every week or two.  Finally, I will continue to enjoy the experience of learning a new language and speak in it whenever I can.

Bye.

こんばんは,

I am excited about learning Japanese for the first time this semester.  Although I have only had a couple days of class so far, I can tell that learning to write and read in all three alphabets is going to be very difficult. However, after I am able to master all three, learning Japanese will become much easier and more understandable.  I wanted to learn Japanese because I have always been curious about it as a language but never able to comprehend any of it (except for "Arigato" and "Konnichiwa").  I am looking forward to what I hope to be a new and very rewarding experience.

Wish me luck,
